Secreted within Ruth Black's library is an unassuming notebook with a garish paper cover and bright colored pages. Inside, fountain pen haiku scrawl across the leaves. Betwixt and between, scraps of paper littered with odd bits of poetic and lyrical ephemera. Tiny collages of larger thoughts. Doodles and quotes and snippets. Ruth's handwriting is a swirl across the cover: "behind the spotlight where the shadows dance like fire there are no winners."
